STE Financial was born in 2020 from a simple observation: most business owners spend too much time bogged down in bookkeeping and not enough time planning for the future. Founders Mark Moore, a licensed mortgage broker, and Craig Hughes, a CPA, cover both sides of the picture, so advice on the books and better deals for you Asset/Home Loans come from the same two heads.

We are a small, tight knit team based on the beautiful Tweed Coast, and our values (being approachable, thorough and genuinely invested) are at the heart of everything we do. We bring personality and fun to the numbers, using proven systems to deliver accurate, insightful advice.

About the role

This is a rare opportunity for an accountant or tax agent who wants to move beyond compliance and become a trusted advisor. We are a small, values driven firm on the beautiful Tweed Coast, and we are looking for someone who can handle a diverse portfolio of clients while growing into a true advisory role.

You will be supported by a CPA partner, work directly with clients, and gain exposure to both accounting and lending advice. This is not a corporate job with rigid hierarchies. It is a chance to join a tight knit team where your personality matters as much as your technical skills.

What you will do

Prepare financial statements, BAS and income tax returns across a diverse range of clients and entity structures.
Manage your own client portfolio with support from the partners, building strong, ongoing relationships.
Use Xero and its integrated app ecosystem to drive cloud based collaboration and efficient workflows.
Contribute to management accounting work, including cash flow forecasts, three way modelling and KPI reporting suites.
Apply your knowledge of Australian tax legislation, including FBT, CGT concessions and Division 7A.
Work closely with the lending side of the business so clients receive advice that covers both their books and their finance.
Maintain rigorous documentation standards and quality control, because our accuracy comes from real review by real people.

What you need

Solid experience in tax and accounting practice, ideally in a registered tax agent environment.
Advanced proficiency in Xero and confidence with cloud accounting tools.
Strong competency in financial statements, BAS, income tax and a good grasp of advisory work.
A commercial mindset and a genuine interest in the story behind the numbers.
Excellent communication skills, so you can translate complex financial information into plain English.
The ability to work independently, take ownership of your work, and thrive in a small team.

What success looks like

Clients see you as their first point of contact for financial advice, not just compliance.
You balance technical accuracy with a practical, commercial approach.
You build genuine rapport with clients and colleagues while maintaining a thorough, accurate work ethic.
You are comfortable with evolving systems and are excited to help the firm grow.

What we offer

Part time work with real scope and a genuine work life balance.
Direct mentoring from a CPA partner.
Attractive team incentives and after hours activities.
Exposure to both accounting and lending, so you can advise clients across the full picture.
A friendly, personality driven culture with a small, supportive team.
A long term opportunity to grow with a boutique firm on the Tweed Coast.

This is not the right fit if

You prefer a compliance only mindset and do not want to advise clients directly.
You are uncomfortable with cloud accounting or a small, agile team environment.
You prefer rigid corporate structures over flexibility and high trust.
You would rather work in a silo than build genuine client relationships.
